Once dried, this substance transforms into an effective moisture absorber for high-humidity environments. Silica gel particles possess microscopic pores that can absorb up to 40% of their weight and reduce relative humidity (RH) by up to 40% in a sealed container.

The pores attract water molecules, which adhere to the surface of each gel granule, effectively controlling moisture levels. Even when fully saturated, the desiccant granules remain dry due to capillary condensation. Saturated desiccant can be reused by heating it to 300ºF (150ºC) to expel the moisture.

For an indicating desiccant, we offer blue-indicating silica gel with cobalt chloride, which changes colour (usually to pink or red) upon saturation. This signals the need for replacement. This moisture absorber can be used for electronics or transformer breathers.

Additionally, our environmental gel, or orange-indicating desiccants, contains a safe organic indicator called methyl-violet. This desiccant changes from orange to green as it absorbs moisture, indicating full saturation and the need for replacement or reactivation.
